Subtitle: Flash Fiction, Short Stories and Poetry. All Read By Different Voices.
Summary: I often have people send me small bits of flash fiction, short stories and poetry. So I’ve decided to create a new project in which I occasionally take the most interesting work that I’m sent, and bring my own interpretations to these pieces Each production will be around 1-2 minutes in length and will feature one different voice-performer each time. The audio will be mixed with a suitable musical track, and an abstract video will be created in which the spoken text will be overlaid over the visuals. I purposely create the mood and the visuals based on what the piece means to me when I read it. I believe that when you adapt another persons idea, you create a unique amalgamation; something that couldn’t exist by itself. If you’re interested in sending me some work that you feel might be suitable for this style (or you’re interested in voicing pieces like this for me) drop me an email to studio@cornucopia-radio.co.uk Please Note: This is the audio only feed for this series. Paul Knierim / The Skip0:02:48256037480008.55 MB
A man alone on the wet bank of the creek. He rests softly on a hollow log with eyes forward, feet apart. His wide hat halts the advance of the midday sun from above, so it sneaks below by deflecting off the water. The man's reflection stares coolly up at him. It locks eyes with his as if to challenge him, and soon the pair appear lost in a contest of wills. Dan Stout / The Coffin Merchant0:01:21256076480003.36 MB
"This way," he said, and led us past the merchandise—two dozen finely crafted coffins displayed on the forest floor. The trees were mulberries, and as we walked the fallen fruit stained our shoes, dark purple spreading over our soles like bruises. Barry M. Putt, Jr. / Life Trail0:01:27256kbps480003.54 MB
He stepped out of the murky mist as the dawn broke. The thistles swayed strangeness in the sullen air. A cool feeling breezed through him as he approached his desolate village, where family once worked and played. Bread in a window. Smoke in the air. Knives being sharpened. Now motionless. Without wings. His bare footsteps plodded on through the caked dirt. Not a sound or a soul to be found. Where was he? Who was he? A stranger on his own ground. Life Trail Written By Barry M. The recorder beeps when she presses the stop button, the nuclear winds blowing through her close-cropped hair. He’s gone, but she’s survived. And she will keep surviving. To spite him, despite him, or because she truly does love him. She blows the sand off the microphone and presses record. Gareth Brownbill / Old Ground0:03:50128kbps480004.95 MB
On a pitch black night. On a storm swept road a few miles out of town. Torrential rain had soaked him to the skin in seconds. But he had never been so grateful of a passing lift in his whole life. He opened the passenger car door and got in, and slowly the truth was revealed...
